Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj are two performers you wouldn’t expect to ever inhabit the same sentence, let alone the same controversy. However, a few days ago Taylor Swift (formerly known as T-Swizzle) released a video where people are dressed as 80s rappers, and people are twerking. No one thought anything of this video, except maybe how stupid it is, until a fine distinguished gentleman by the name of Earl Sweatshirt started tweeting about how this video is racist, offensive and harmful to society. We watch the video to try and see what Earl and the other social justice warriors are taking issue with. We can’t help but notice that the critique given to Taylor Swift seems mysteriously absent for another new video released this week, “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj. Four glorious minutes of close up shots of asses, boobs, twerking, the N word, tribal dancing, women dressed the same as Taylor Swift’s video… seems just a little more “harmful” to society than Taylor Swift’s stupid white girl problems. But don’t confuse this with us having a problem with either video; we love them both. Just proving a point. And if the point is lost on you, then maybe you should give the video “Lookin’ Ass Niggas” by Nicki Minaj a try. Is this more harmful than Taylor Swift’s idiocy? No? Welcome to the discussion, hypocrite.
The show actually starts out, however, with a complete existential crisis as Ben suddenly realizes there’s no legitimate reason to do the show. We don’t get paid for it, we don’t have fame, we don’t have a ton of listeners (more than most podcasts, but still only a few thousand) and all we ever do is worry about the show and struggle to meet its responsibilities. What is all this effort for, exactly? We break down the discussion to try and figure out the answer to that question. The outlook doesn’t seem good, maybe you can help answer this question listeners, because the future of the show is suddenly looking like it’s in trouble. Or, you know, continue not really caring and let it all just fade away into obscurity. It was probably our fate all along anyway.
