This week’s episode is special for a couple reasons. First, Ben finally tells his famous detached retina eyeball surgery experience, which is a hall-of-fame story of hilarity and grossness. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Fire in the Sky” you’ll understand exactly what this story is like. Second, the episode features the last appearance of one of the original D.A. crew, Kim, before a car accident took her life, so this episode became a tribute of sorts. Listen to Ben have an actual feeling as he intros the episode talking about her- weirded out! But it’s only for a minute, we promise the rest of the episode is as funny (or as not funny) as all our other ones!
Once the episode gets underway, we talk about transhumanism- the idea of migrating your personality and everything that makes up who you are into hardware rather than a body. Kim had been watching the Joe Rogan show and the concept freaked her out, so she texted Ben to discuss, which led to an immediate podcast recording the next day with Kim and another D.A. crew member, Scoob. Somehow the conversation turned into a synopsis of the movie “Mean Girls.” I’ve listened back several times and I still don’t understand how it happened.
Then, in a segment sure be remembered, Ben tells his eyeball surgery story. He randomly got a detached retina a few years ago, and what happened next is crazy! If you’re squeamish, you may pass out listening to it- just like Kim and Scoob did on the episode! Well I’m not sure if they were fully passed out, but it looked like it. The closer to feinting they got, the more grotesque the story became- and it’s all completely true! Ben lived through this nightmare- you won’t believe it when you hear it!
Then Ben does a quick Facebook roundup, and says a few final things about our awesome podcast member Kim, and we changed the outro music a little in honor of Kim. We miss you kid.
