The friend zone is a much discussed, observed and puzzled over phenomenon. It’s the default place for men to end up in when they begin courting a young lady. Ironically, most women say they want to marry someone who is their best friend, which would imply the best choices for potential husbands would be in the friend zone. Alas, this is never the case. I don’t want to go so far as to say women are lying about this point- lest I be labeled a red pill- but it would seem there is at least some confusion regarding the friend zone. Today, we take a journey in real time with show regular Chris as he is wavering precariously with a lovely young woman between romantic partner and friend zone. As the drama unfolds, we discover where the truth and the fiction are within the friend zone. Is he destined to be a white knight? Or must he become the dreaded red pill to get what he wants? She And perhaps the most important question, does anyone care?
As we wait for some of the dramatic story lines to unfold, we discuss a thread on reddit about the loneliest things people have ever done. Some of it is funny, some of it heartbreaking, but when we add our own stories to the mix, the only word that seems appropriate is “pathetic.” No one exemplifies lonely losers like the devil’s advocates. Crying alone in your chili? Having pretend relationships with online people? Having a birthday dinner alone at a diner because no one on the planet cares that you exist? Welcome to how we do lonely.
An interesting discussion also springs up regarding the nature of Chinese buffet restaurants. You never see Mexican or Italian buffets… it dawns on Ben that the nightmarish situation of being in a Chinese restaurant is a nightmare scenario if there are a lot of waiters there, and that perhaps this is why Chinese buffets became so popular. Don’t know what I mean? Think about it… and if you still can’t figure it out, then just listen to the show. In fact, why aren’t you listening now? No one ever even reads down here to the bottom, what’s your deal?
